My husband and I had been trying to conceive for almost 4 years. It’s been quite the journey with having multiple fertility treatments, several miscarriages, and lots of heartaches. When I found Shelly, through a friend who has Shelly as a teacher, we had been on the journey about a year and a half. Shelly has been with us since that time. She was actually the one to figure out that I had a thyroid issue ( Hashimoto’s) and worked with me to help get it in check. She helped to supplement various fertility treatments as well as healing my body after each IVF treatment or miscarriage. Not only was she there to help me physically, but she also became a dear support system, a friend to lean on some of our darkest days. She treated me how she would treat her own sister/daughter/friend with check-ins and various support measures. She also accompanied us to all our frozen embryo transfers and after. I’m so glad that I found Shelly! I saw her weekly for herbs when I had difficulty getting pregnant. The doctors wanted me to get surgery, but instead, she prescribed me weekly herbal mixes, in combination with acupuncture, from the colleague who recommended her to me. For the past five years, my husband and I have made efforts to conceive. It has been a long and arduous journey for us. We have tried a lot of different ways to try and get pregnant since we weren’t conceiving the natural way. We both went to doctors to have our health checked out and we were told we were fine. No red flags were evident, however, doctors immediately pushed me into taking hormones and going through intrauterine insemination. For one year I was put on Clomid and nothing, no pregnancy. Each cycle was devastating and heartbreaking, but doctors kept pushing medication on me and I kept taking it. After three years of attempting to conceive, doctors changed my medicine to Menopur, which is stronger than Clomid. At that time, I also began to look at my diet and physical state of being. I reevaluated what I ate, changed my eating habits to a more vegan/vegetarian lifestyle and began exercising, but still nothing. Menopur’s effects on my body and mood were not great. I had strong mood swings, felt irritable, and uncomfortable overall. I wasn’t feeling myself and was just not happy continuing to attempt to conceive the (Eastern) medical way. That’s when I decided to look for alternative more holistic based methods and found myself under the thoughtful care of Shelly Krahn. I still remember the first day I walked into her cozy office and was greeted by her with a warm welcome. Shelly took the time to listen and read through my physical and emotional health history before starting any treatment. Once she had a profound knowledge of my health, she began healing and readjusting my body via acupuncture. I appreciate that Shelly not only took the time to heal my body via acupuncture, but also that every session she took the time to understand my emotional well being as well. After three months of going to Shelly and also my doctor’s visits, I decided to stop going to the doctor overall and simply continue acupuncture. Every week Shelly worked on my body via acupuncture, herbs, and daily temperature readings. Six months after the first day I walked into Shelly’s office, my pregnancy test read positive; you can imagine the excitement I felt. I am now seven months pregnant and my baby and I continue our acupuncture visits with Shelly. I know that we are both under the best care. I do not look forward to ending my acupuncture visits after my baby arrives. I tend to get attached to great things or in this case a great, caring person. This has been my journey. If I were to do it all over again, I would not go through any hormonal treatments via my doctor’s office. My body and mind went through too much stress when I was going through that and who needs stress when trying to conceive, on the contrary. If I were to do it all over again, I would focus on healing and readjusting my body via acupuncture, natural herbs, a healthy diet, and exercise. To Shelly, I am forever grateful.

When my husband and I decided to start trying for a baby I was 35 and had been on the pill for many years. After being told by a fertility specialist that I had almost 0% chance of getting pregnant on my own, we were headed down the IVF road. Shelly has helped our family so much in our fertility journey. I have PCOS and so had ovulation issues. I went to a fertility doctor and tried several rounds of letrozole, but it wasn’t until I started acupuncture with her (immediately actually) that we were able to get pregnant with our first-born son. Then when it came time to have another child, I decided to start out with acupuncture before visiting the fertility doctor. It was amazing how her treatments could regulate my periods. She also did the research to find the right supplement that seemed to also be the ticket to our pregnancy for our second son. I am now in my 3rd trimester and am so happy we found Shelly. As someone who has struggled with severe anxiety and depression their whole life, I had been interested in trying acupuncture for quite some time to see if it would help me manage some of these symptoms as naturally as possible. After getting pregnant I was referred to Shelly by my midwife, and I was ready to give it a go. Little did I know how critical Shelly would become to my overall comfort and well-being during my pregnancy. Within a few weeks of seeing her regularly, I noticed my mood had improved, and my anxiety and depression were well-managed on significantly less medication than I had required in the past. In addition, Shelly and her treatments were the only things that helped terrible back pain that I experienced as a result of the pregnancy. No number of massages, heat, pillows, or other recommendations from my providers helped… with the exception of Shelly. I was able to continue working full time and largely avoid pain medications thanks to Shelly and the amazing work that she does. I cannot recommend Shelly enough for anyone, especially mothers-to-be. She takes time to fully assess you at the start of every session, listens to your concerns and issues, and tailors your treatment to your current symptoms and needs. It is obvious that she cares and truly wants to help, making sure symptoms are alleviated and treatments have been effective. Shelly is an extremely gifted practitioner and an equally compassionate soul. I am forever grateful for all that she has done for me, my health, and that of my baby.

I was first treated by Shelly more than two years ago and I continue to see her because she’s just so knowledgeable and approachable. Shelly is amazing. I had unexplained chest pain that put me in the hospital. After many weeks, 11 doctors, countless painkillers, and lots of expensive tests later, no one had an answer for me. I never experienced acupuncture before, but I read that it could help with pain. So, I made an appointment with Shelly. From the moment I met her, she put me at ease. She really listened to my problems and concerns, explained everything that she was going to do to help, and made me feel like I could trust her. Leaving that appointment, I was so happy because it was the first time I had some relief from the pain. I continued my visits and soon, the pain was completely gone. Shelly, it has been more than three months since I injured myself and started having shoulder and arm pain on my left side. I am glad to let you know that I have completely recovered from my injury. I have had the pleasure of knowing Shelly Krahn as an acupuncturist as well as a teacher at the Pacific College Of Oriental Medicine. As a student, Shelly taught my OB/GYN course and was one of my favorite professors at the school. Although humble, and she would probably fight me on the title, I feel that Shelly Krahn is a true master of her craft. To teach others at a world-renowned school is to truly know your field. As a patient, I feel Shelly truly cares about my well being and healing process along with everyone I have seen her work with. I am a medically retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel and a Vietnam veteran with a 100% service connected disability and have been receiving acupuncture treatment with electrical stimulation from Shelly Krahn (for the last 4 years) and I am also an OUTPATIENT at the VA hospital since circa 1991. I had 3 surgeries for an inner ear disorder [ Meniere’s disease and vestibular nerve dysfunction ] ; the surgeries included a Stapedectomy for Otosclerosis; a brain surgery for my vestibular nerve section and tumor removal; and a final brain surgery to repair the hole punctured in the dura of the brain during the first brain surgery. After receiving follow-up treatment at the VA, I searched for and found additional help for dealing with the myriad problems associated with having one vice two Vestibular nerves with Shelly Krahn. The problems I sought treatment for were: vertigo, confusion, exhaustion, nausea [motion sickness], severe short-term memory problems, inability to concentrate, etc. The treatment of acupuncture with electrical stimulation has been a lifesaver for me and has enabled me to have a semblance of a normal lifestyle and be able to raise my son. When I receive acupuncture, it works right into the problem area, with the end result that I get a little more energy and clarity of thought and an obvious positive stimulation of the brain and inner ear. When I first went to her for treatment I had to lay down at least 50% of each day (24/7), and couldn’t concentrate on anything for more than 15 minutes without getting nauseous and being exhausted.. NOW, I can do so for several hours and only have to lay down about 20% of my awake hours. .. This treatment works! Also, although the Vestibular nerve is not known to regenerate, the treatment is keeping the remaining Vestibular nerve strong and functional to make up for the missing nerve on the right side. I can FEEL growth and progress and it gives me hope that someday I can be as close to living a normal life as possible. SHELLY KRAHN is the most knowledgeable, compassionate, prepared and dedicated health care professional I have ever met in my 65 years of life (and I’ve met A LOT of them.) I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that she be included as a recommended acupuncturist and incredible source of help to my injured and sick fellow veterans. To NOT do so would be a mistake and a loss to those in need of real healing without relying on drugs and a loss to the VA in general.
